Wolverhampton Over 50's Forum was set up to enable the older people of the City to speak and be heard. The only two requirements for membership are that you are over the age of fifty and that you live within the City of Wolverhampton.
The Forum meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Civic Centre Wolverhampton. It is an organisation that endeavours to help the older people get a better deal, not by marching, protesting or waving banners. There are numerous other groups that use this method of getting their ideas across. The Forum tries to work with government departments both national and local, using a different approach does work sometimes as our many successes will indicate. Originally the Forum was one of twenty-eight pilot schemes set up across the country by Better Government for Older People (BGOP).
The Forum is supported by the Adults and Community Department of the City Council but is not a tool of the City Council. The Forum is totally independent in its thinking and it actions and has no political leanings whatsoever. Good relationships have been built up between the Forum and the City Council Departments, Many other Older People's Organisations, Public Transport, Police, Fire Service and Hospitals etc. There is still plenty of work to be done and we are always on the lookout for new members who wish to volunteer some time and effort in this worthy cause.
The Wolverhampton Over 50's Forum is an organisation for older people run by older people who wish to see that they and the many others in the city can speak and be heard.
